My next stage for this project will focus on establishing a clear user demographic for my chosen SDG of Reduced Inequalities and defining a specific problem area that I can address through design. This step will help me narrow my focus and ensure that my project has a clear purpose and audience in mind. By understanding who I am designing for and what key issue I aim to solve, I can begin to develop meaningful design solutions that are both impactful and user-centred.
My first main objective for this stage is to understand and establish my user demographic for the project. After reviewing the deliverables provided by Kyle, I noted that our target audience should be around 10 years old. While at first, this may seem like an unusual focus, it makes sense when considering how younger generations are increasingly being introduced to important global topics such as equality and sustainability. By aligning my chosen SDG of Reduced Inequalities with this audience, I can create a design that is both educational and engaging, helping children at this age develop awareness and understanding of fairness, inclusion, and respect for others. This allows me to present complex ideas in a way that is simple, relatable, and visually accessible to a younger audience.
I felt it would be really helpful at this stage to mind map my thoughts and research, connecting my 10-year-old target audience with my chosen SDG of Reduced Inequalities. By visually mapping out the links between the two, I could better understand how to approach the topic in a way that’s both meaningful and age-appropriate. This generation, including myself, has grown up surrounded by conversations and awareness around diversity, inclusion, accessibility, and fairness across digital media, schools, and everyday life. Platforms like YouTube, TikTok, and educational programs increasingly highlight social causes and equality, meaning young audiences today are already familiar with these themes to some extent. Mind mapping will allow me to explore how I could take these real-world influences and translate them into an engaging digital experience, helping children learn about equality through design that feels relevant and understandable to them.
