This semester, the Content Design module has been one of the most engaging and enjoyable parts of my course so far. From the beginning, the module helped me recognise the importance of content as a central component of user experience, rather than something that simply supports visual design. Through lectures, discussions, and practical tasks, I developed a stronger understanding of how content is created, structured, and communicated to guide users effectively through digital experiences. This shift in perspective has been particularly valuable and has influenced how I now approach UX design more holistically. One of the strongest elements of the module was the range of projects, each of which explored different aspects of content design and encouraged the practical application of theory. While I enjoyed all three projects, I found that they varied in difficulty. The second project, which focused on the Sustainable Development Goals, was the most challenging for me. I struggled to find strong inspiration and found it difficult to create content that felt both educational and genuinely beneficial to users. Although I was able to design a visually clear and accessible home and menu screen, I found it harder to develop the concept further, and this is reflected in the overall outcome of the project. Despite this, the experience was still valuable, as it highlighted areas where I need to strengthen my ideation and content development skills. In contrast, the smartwatch project stood out as my favourite and strongest piece of work. Designing for a small screen presented its own challenges, but it also encouraged creative problem-solving. It pushed me to prioritise clarity, simplicity, and content hierarchy, ensuring that every element served a clear purpose. This project reinforced the importance of concise content and thoughtful structure, particularly when working within tight design constraints. Throughout the semester, the module was well organised and balanced theoretical learning with practical application. I appreciated how concepts introduced in lectures could be immediately applied to project work. The inclusion of placement talks and industry insights was also extremely beneficial. Although the number of guest speakers sometimes made the schedule feel busy, these sessions provided valuable real-world context and helped bridge the gap between academic learning and professional practice. Another key takeaway from this module was learning to approach design with a stronger user-centred mindset. Content design has encouraged me to spend more time understanding users and their needs before moving into visual design. This has improved the clarity, accessibility, and intention behind my work and has strengthened my overall design process. Overall, this module has significantly contributed to my development as a designer. It has deepened my understanding of content as a fundamental part of UX design and challenged me to think more critically about how information is communicated. Despite some challenges, particularly within the SDG project, the module was both rewarding and impactful, and it has strongly influenced how I will approach future design work.
