This week, our lecture focused on usability testing, where we learned how to evaluate designs through methods such as eye-tracking and structured user testing to better understand real user behaviour and interaction. These techniques demonstrated how to identify usability issues and inform design decisions with evidence rather than assumptions. We also had a placement talk from Big Motive, which was really insightful and gave a valuable look into industry practice and future placement opportunities.

3 tasks are:
-New TV for christmas - Upon searching for TV, it did not provide accurate results for the result of TV and instead gave options of TV stand, remotes and accessories on top of televisions. Simple timing for reaching the result, just not provided with a clear search result. A solution I would provide would be ensuring there are clear search results, as well as potential icons specifying what each item is, e.g shortlisting options for clearer results.
-Get in touch section - no clear option to get in touch except a number to ring, for other options of contact like email and location, they were located at the bottom of the screen, meaning you had to scroll to the bottom. Only took about a minute to reach; however had unclear pointers as to where it was located. A solution I would provide would be having a clear contact or pop-up icon showcasing a way to contact, similar to WhatsApp or email, that opens a new window for the customer to interact with.
-Delivery information - no clear delivery option or banner, again hidden at the bottom of the page if clearly looking for information, otherwise only brief delivery info given on products when selected. took around 2 minutes to find clear delivery information. A solution I would provide would be having some banners showcasing clear delivery times, like 3-4 days, or special offers during periods, as well as a clear indication of items.
Today’s placement talk was delivered by Jonny Willis and Rachel Sloan, who gave us an insightful overview of their work, studio culture, and overall design ethos. They discussed their work ethic, collaborative process, and how they break projects down across different areas of design. We also learned about the placement role, what it involves, and why it would be a valuable opportunity for students. They showcased a range of exciting projects, including work for Adidas, ICO, and other recognised clients. Overall, it was a really engaging and inspiring talk, and it genuinely felt like the type of creative workplace I would be enthusiastic about joining on placement.
