This week’s lecture focused on storytelling and how it can be communicated through digital products and services. We explored how presenting a narrative for users to follow can be far more engaging than simply explaining what a product does. Understanding this approach is particularly important for our current project, as it helps us determine how to effectively narrate and present our Future Living concept in a way that resonates with our target audience.

Everything we do is a story

Kyle first explained the importance of telling a story through the products we design and why it is essential to engage the users we are aiming to provide a service for. He highlighted how a strong narrative can help people better understand and connect with a product. A good example of this approach is Apple, which consistently uses narrative storytelling in its product showcases, such as the recent launch of the Mac, where features are presented through real-life scenarios and experiences rather than just technical details.

The power of a pause

We also explored the power of a pause, understanding that while the right words can be impactful, sometimes silence can be even more powerful when used at the right moment. A well-known example of this is the theme from Jaws, where the pauses between the notes build tension and heighten suspense. This demonstrates how intentional pauses can create emphasis and engagement, something we can apply when presenting our Future Living project to make key moments or ideas more impactful.
